Bandwidth Or Data Transfer - Which is Which?
Too often web hosts talk about bandwidth and data transfer in the same breath but truth be known they are different although very closely related. Bandwidth is how much data can be transferred at a time and data transfer is how much data is being transferred.

I\’ve added and configured them on your server so as long as you use the IP\’s listed above you should have no more problems.

Intended to modernise the way customers buy hosting products and services, the new domain look up tool allows customers to search for multiple domains, and make changes to their shopping basket, in a single browser window. It also uses Ajax technology for searching instantly - beginning the search as soon as you start typing. All of this means that if a customer wants to register multiple Domain Names and multiple types of TLD in a single order, they can do this in a fast and efficient way by using the new UK2 domain look up.
Instead of launching your hosting business to wait for traffic to convert into hosting clients, you can take a completely different approach. You can use ethical email marketing and compile a list of targeted possible hosting clients. You can even purchase such an email list from reputable companies. However this latter option needs to be handled with a lot of care because many list companies claiming to be reputable are actually the very opposite.
Something not many people know when choosing a web host is the importance of choosing a host that will aid your marketing and your website’s niche. This can be very important if you are running an online store depending on the geographic region you are focusing on. So first let’s start with an explanation of why this all depends on who your site’s visitors will be.

Web Hosting Mergers and Acquisitions - January 2008
Fri, 08 Feb 2008 09:54:00 -0400
January was a bit slow --- this is often the case as firms often try to close transactions by the end of the year.
Sunnyvale, CA -- Network Appliance, Inc. NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP) completed the acquisition of Boston based Onaro, a datacenter automation solution company in a $120 million transaction. It is reported that backers put about $9.5 million in Onaro, which looks like a great return.
Las Vegas NV-- Dialpoint Communications Corporation (OTCBB: DLPC), acquired the assets of South Carolina based Hostigation.com. Dialpoint issued 333,334 shares --- a deal which in another blog I noted was worth $50k in an all stock transaction.
Niagara Falls, ON - Canadian based Vision Online Network was acquired by Deli India based Real Value Hosting. Vision Online Network specializes in Windows based web hosting.
Duluth, GA - Ralph Smith's Fat Jack Hosting Acquired HostMyProxies.com, a proxy website host. HostMyProxies.com is based at an undisclosed location.
Dallas, TX – Affiliated Computer Services, Inc has acquired Syan for approximately $60 million. Syan’s trailing twelve-months revenue was approximately $75 million. The transaction was funded by existing cash on hand. Syan has several large data centers in the UK.
Tempe, AZ - Greenstreet Real Estate Partners acquired the Tempe One (Tempe, AZ) data and call center for $30.3 million.
Edmonton, AB, Canada – California upstart Enacten acquired all of the shares of Edmonton based Alentus Corporation in an all cash transaction. Alentus provides dedicated/managed and shared hosting services. New Commerce Communications (this blogger) represented Alentus in the transaction.
Pittsford, NY - Spider Graphics Corporation and ITX, a web technology and hosting firm merged. The new name is Spider ITX, very creative.
Overland Park, KS - Erickson Solutions Group has bought the client base of Nothing But Net a company that concentrates on Web and e-mail hosting. Hopefully the acquisition will help the Erickson corporate website.
Raleigh, NC - Hosted Solutions has acquired a new data facility, it's second in Charlotte, NC. The site adds 7,600 square feet of floor space.
Obviously not all inclusive - but from the NCC files.

Where did all the free web hosts go?
Wed, 04 Apr 2007 10:33:28 EST
A long, long time ago free web hosts were the coolest thing on the internet
and most, if not all, non-commercial websites were hosted by one. You don't
hear that much about free hosting anymore so I though it would be interesting
to check out what has happened to the free web hosts that I have used.
Green Web Hosting

We’ve had a few customers asking how ‘Green’ JaguarPC Web Hosting is or if we have plans on ‘going green‘.
It’s tough to answer exactly how green JaguarPC is but I can tell you this:
JaguarPC promotes recycling. Personally I will never throw away paper, aluminum, cardboard, plastic, etc. We use our recycling service faithfully.

Don’t get me wrong, I love WordPress - and use it in a lot of places but there are a lot of nice alternatives to WordPress too when you start looking around at scripts and services others are developing. Marie writes in with this CMS controversy.
For the month december 2007, hostican uptime is above the uptime guarantee as well. This hostican review blog is hosted with hostican hosting using their shared hosting plan. Feel free to use this hostican review site as a hostican demo website, and try out their server before signing up new account with hostican. Never try, never know! You will be impressed!
For starters it is amazing what difference it can make when you narrow down your target market. Going for a specific niche market is the way to go on the web. Many web hosting services hardly have a specific target market and prefer to be as general as possible believing that this would give them a better chance of signing up as many clients as possible. Actually the very opposite happens and many web hosts have quickly found that they are more profitable when they target a specific web hosting market.

We keep hearing about Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail all fighting it out to provide you with the largest e-mail inbox. If you have a web hosting account though, it is very easy to beat all of these providers and give yourself the e-mail disk space you really need.
But I also do agree with the stand point of Gandi.com -
that they’d rather spend time in what they do best and
are specialized at, instead of being and acting as Net

ABC's of Getting a Site Online
Sun, 03 Sep 2006 05:10:07 -0400
Getting a site online can seem difficult, conceptually, if you've never attempted it before. The following list is provided as a general step-by-step guide for getting a site online.
a. Determine your website needs. Is this a personal website, a business website, will you be streaming media, etc. Capture your requirements before you proceed with choosing products so you can buy the products and services that best meet your needs.
b. Choose a Site Concept. You should research your market, determine best keywords to use, what your site is going to say, and start mapping out content. You should not pick a domain name or start building pages until you've nailed down a solid concept. Read more in the site sell section about how to build a content based website. This is the most important step of getting a successful site online. Don't come up with the plan after you already are down the road a bit and have to make major course corrections.

This is why hosting companies have to remain vigilant about every sign up they get. Unfortunately, this is why you may also have to provide additional info upon signup, which could extend your signup process from a few minutes to a couple of days. For your own safety though...
Business Websites
Sun, 03 Sep 2006 04:56:01 -0400
Businesses have several motivations for building business websites. For some, the Internet is their only customer base, for others they want to promote professional services and add to an existing clientele. There may be different needs and motivations but there are some common characteristics for successful business websites that all businesses ought to take note of.
Content - This should be the up-front consideration. Many spend a long time making a web site look pretty but the key to a successful site that, both customers and search engines like, is good content that informs the reader and "tells" the search engine bots what your site is about. Your aiming point should be a site that informs, puts you in a niche, makes people want to reference you and come back. Graphics are nice but the most successful sites on the Internet are nearly completely text based. Some business web sites look fantastic with tons of eye grabbing stuff but if they fail to deliver content then, unless it is a marquee name, it will be primarily a piece of art for the company to admire and be of little use in driving new customers their way through search engines. Remember: content, content, content!
